Human beings – in all our glorious and often endearing imperfection – are the subject of Shannon Plumb's short film. In "Paper Collection," she focuses on the characters of the fashion world. Looking through a self-conscious lens of irony and naivete, she chronicles both the cultural significance and the accompanying absurdity that prevails in a world where surface and appearance are of the utmost importance.
The filmmaker herself portrays the roles of model, photographer, magazine editor and fashionista. She also shoot the film and makes the sets and props, including the paper wigs and dresses that round out the installation.
Meet Shannon Plumb at the 5:30 p.m. opening reception for "Paper Collection" on Nov. 7 in the ArtSpace Main Gallery. Plumb also screens shorts and talks about her work at a special ArtTalk at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, in the Center Studio Theater, above the Theater Lobby off 265 S. Cache.
