Over the course of the last 37 years, Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel have boldly defied the fickle lures of the mainstream – and thrived – by sticking to their noble cause of keeping that distinctly American of art forms, western swing, alive and kicking.
Back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, music fans in Jackson Hole – and throughout the country – counted among their blessings the Teton-grown quartet Loose Ties.
Tony Furtado established himself as a banjo prodigy at the ripe old age of 19 by winning two National Bluegrass Banjo Championships. But one instrument wasn’t enough for this creative artist, so he picked up the slide guitar, started writing songs, and added singer to his songwriter and instrumental titles.

The Jackson Hole Music Experience brings its popular Women of Jackson Showcase – the seventh annual installment – to the Center Theater, featuring local performers Valerie Seaberg (with Tom Turiano), Margo Valiante and Anne Sibley, and headliner Tift Merritt.
The live auction once again will feature historically recognized artists, including important works by the Taos Society of Artists and deceased masters. Other lots feature works by top contemporary artists such as William Acheff, Clyde Aspevig, Roy Andersen, Robert Bateman, Ken Carlson, Martin Grelle, Clark Hulings, Z.S. Liang, Bill Owen, Jim Norton, Mian Situ, Curt Walters and Jie Wei Zhou. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Center for the Arts.
Among the mountain gorillas of Rwanda, in the Virunga Mountains of Africa, Titus reigns as king, a position he gained with extraordinary courage, strategy and determination. The record of his life began when Dian Fossey, the famed primatologist, introduced a young researcher named Kelly Stewart to the gorillas.
